Castles, cloisters, churches and chapels

The North Eifel is a region rich in cultural history. In the Middle Ages a large number of castles were built in the region, with the specific purpose of protecting the borders. Many of the castles are now only ruins, however some other medieval castles have been preserved. Discover numerous castles and palaces of the North Eifel along the Moated Castle Cycle Route.

The Middle Ages was also an era of great church constructions in the Eifel. In the Baroque and Rococo eras numerous cloister constructions were built such as the one in Steinfeld. Additionally the region is influenced by many chapels.
