Cycle Region North Eifel

Pedals instead of horse power

Are you a recreational cyclist or a peak climber? It doesn’t matter. The North Eifel offers athletic tours, or more relaxing trails along river and stream valleys and adventurous stops.

Eifel Heights Route

The 230 km long stretch leads past water landscapes of three dams and rough rock formations around the Eifel National Park. It offers numerous panorama views and challenging hilly terrain that however is also easy to cycle on by untrained cyclists with pedelecs. Majestic Beech woods and idyllic nature, in addition to cycle-friendly hosts await you. Charming Eifel villages offer inviting refreshment breaks.

Erft Cycle Trail

Along about 110 km, beginning at the source of the Erft in Nettersheim-Holzmühlheim, the Erft Cycle Trail leads continually downhill or on plains through the North Eifel  and Rhine Bight to the estuary mouth near Neuss. Peaceful Eifel villages, green meadow  landscapes, mighty castles and Roman relics, scenes of the material-manufacturing  industry, the Rhine Bight with open-cast mining, magnificent palaces, in addition to modern art and technology offer plenty of variety.

Ahr Cycle Trail

On former Ahrtalbahn railway lines, straight through the smallest and one of the noblest wine-making areas of Germany, the trail goes from the Ahr source in the peaceful castle town of Blankenheim to the only river mouth under nature preservation, near Sinzig on the Rhine. Light uphill and relaxing downhill slopes are there to tempt you, as do wine-making villages, historical Ahrweiler and the chic Spa Bad Neuenahr.

Three Rivers Tour (Erft - Rhine- Ahr)

Combine the Three Rivers Cycle Trail with an eventful round trip including city air on the Rhine, vineyard romanticism and medieval castles and palaces. In between there are tempting green Eifel landscapes with Roman relics, river meadows and traces of the moving industrial history along the Erft. With its total of 300 km railway lines, numerous railway stations offer an easy way to hop on and hop off.

Moated Castles Route

With its 470 km this route, awarded with three stars by the ADFC, leads through one of the regions of Europe with the most moated castles, within a triangle of three cultural cities-Bonn, Cologne and Aachen. 130 castles and palaces lie on the way and show the interesting history of the region. Because of good train connections this route is excellent for individual travelling plans.

Kyll Cycle Trail

The Kyll Cycle Trail, approximately 125 km long, runs along the River Kyll from Losheimergraben to Trier- mainly flat or slight inclines. Free time cyclists and lovers of cycling have the advantage of the Kyll Cycle Trail running on the former railway lines between Jünkerath, on the German side of the border, and Weywertzs on the Belgian side, which also has a connection to the Vennbahn Cycle Trail.

Valley routes

The Valley Routes is a 265 km long, well-branching cycle trail network along the river beds of the Erft, Urft, Olef, Ahr and Neffelbach. They create a gentle sloping network and enable a change over from valley to valley. From higher starting points families and hobby cyclists can have a relaxing ride down the valleys to the flats.

North Eifel Mountain Bike Adventure

Beginners, experienced cyclists and sport cyclists will be able to find the right tour on numerous routes with varying grades of difficulty, altitude, road structures and lengths. There is something for everyone on the mountain bike routes of the Eifel Free Rides and those in Bad Münstereifel.
